How the Stimulus Might Stimulate YOUR Business

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Two recent articles in USA Today outline how The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (more commonly known as the Stimulus Bill) passed in February allocates tens of billions of dollars for tech infrastructure upgrades to energy, healthcare, broadband deployment, and education.

As these dollars are deployed at the state and local level, countless small- and medium-size businesses, including independent contractors, will be needed to implement the bill’s ambitious goals.  In order to secure bids with the government agencies overseeing these projects, these companies will require appropriate levels of insurance coverage to protect their businesses.

Stuckey & Company has numerous great products designed specifically to serve the Technology, Engineering, Architecture, and Healthcare business markets.  Visit us at http://www.stuckey.com/products/tek/ to learn more about our technology-specific product lines, and call us today to learn how we can help you target these segments will be exploding over the next several months as stimulus spending unfolds.

Get Your Share of the Home Furnishing Business!

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

There are over 40,000 home furnishings stores in the US, with total revenues of over $34B in 2008. These establishments sell everything from tables and chairs to sofas and drapes, and because they sell a wide range of products, they require complete and customized insurance coverage.

Stuckey & Company provides the complete protection the local furniture store in your market needs.  Our core business coverage is second to none, and we have also bundled important protection into optional packages specifically created for businesses in the home furnishings segment, for a fraction of the price your client would pay to buy them individually, including a blanket limit of $350,000 for six key coverages.

Here are a few examples of the protection our program offers:
o Dependent Properties
o Employee Dishonesty
o Business Income Extension for Off-Premises Utility Services

In addition, your client has the option to buy Umbrella insurance with up to $10 million of liability protection over and above the limits of other policies in your business program.

Add to that the convenience of flexible premium payment plans and electronic funds transfer plans, and 24-hour, toll-free claims reporting, and you can see that Stuckey’s got the furniture market covered.

In The Office- April 29, 2009

intheoffice

I have an idea that I would like to pitch to carriers for extra coverage on homeowners policies. It would be called something like: Seasonal Residential Displacement due to Wildlife Encroachment Endorsement. Seriously, if the roof blew off my house or a tree fell through the kitchen window, I wouldn’t be any more panicked and devastated than I was this morning finding a two and a half foot long black snake sunning himself in my family room. I think the house needs to be destroyed. I believe the auto industry would call it “totaled”. I think the house is inhabitable. If I had the SRDWE endorsement, I would at least have the option to reside in a highrise during non-hybernation season in the emergency event that a reptile or other such disgusting vermin invaded my space. You see, I actually got bit by a snake while swimming in a creek when I was in third grade. I didn’t even know it until everyone around me started screaming (it was hanging off my thumb). I lived and it wasn’t that bad so I decided that I wasn’t afraid of snakes. I never liked them, but they didn’t bother me. But after this morning, I take that all back. They bother me! I can still hear my dad’s voice explain on the way to the hospital how some snakes are good and how we need them. Blah, Blah. Fine, need them at your house. I do have to give the little guy credit, (the snake, not my dad) kudos for figuring out how to get in the house. I sometimes have trouble getting in with a key. After talking with others in the office, I realize that there are a lot of “snake” incidents in Missouri. Shoot, several years ago, when our office was right on the lake, I remember Teresa opened her desk drawer and a tiny little snake was dancing around. Still, to this day, I don’t reach in any drawer until I look first. Shelli just showed me a picture of an enormous snake that was in her yard this past weekend. That totally blew my theory that it’s really just one snake, making his rounds, terrifying people. Not to diminish the ickiness of her situation, but at least that snake was in his domain. The downside to St. Louis in the springtime is that it’s 85 degrees one day and 40 degrees the next. Its confusing for humans, I can imagine that it would be for wildlife as well. None of us know whether to go in or stay outside.  Hey, that would make a great tag line for advertising for the endorsement. We’ll keep you posted if that endorsement becomes available. Shelli and Lindsay are available to answer any snake or non-snake related homeowner coverage questions you may have.

Announcing the Re-Launch of HarborGuard Marina Insurance from Stuckey & Company!

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

We are thrilled to celebrate 20 years in the marina insurance industry with the re-launch of our HarborGuard marina product. The HarborGuard program offers tailored liability insurance to a wide variety of marine businesses, including marinas and boat yards, boat dealers, and marine artisans including boat repair and supply shops.

Contact Kerry Stuckey at 800-828-3452 x14 kerry@stuckey.com
or Dwight Stuckey at 800-828-3452 x22 dwight@stuckey.com for all the details.

o

HarborGuard offers comprehensive general liability insurance tailored to the unique risks of the marine industry. The program is available to qualifying businesses with up to $5 million property value per location. Coverages include Inland & Coastal Risk, including wind coverage up to 3 to 5 miles from the coast. Minimum annual premiums for $1 million to $2 million limits start at $2,500, and minimum property coverage starts at $2,000. We can quote in-house, usually with same-day quoting.

We have worked closely with the carrier to ensure the HarborGuard program is a competitive program in today’s insurance environment. The carrier is rated A IX, non admitted. The program is very flexible, and can include replacement cost on docks, liquor liability, non-owned auto and boat rental (with some exclusions). Agent commissions start at 10%.

The marine industry has very few national carriers with rates that are competitive for local markets.  Based on our extensive experience marine insurance, we are confident that HarborGuard will address the insurance needs of marinas and marine professionals who have had difficulty finding appropriate, affordable coverage in recent years.

If you are interested in writing HarborGuard policies, submission requirements include a completed HarborGuard application, a copy of the expiring premium (if possible), pictures of any docks included in coverages, and three years of loss runs for the business. If you have not worked with us in the past, you will also need to complete a brief application to become a Stuckey & Company licensed agent.
