Is Your Client Liable? Blogs, Email, & RSS Feeds
Nearly every company distributes electronic content over the internet. Many of the companies who use these mechanisms to promote their products and services are unaware of the potential risks. In fact, they can be held liable for unwittingly publishing defamatory comments or content that infringes on copyrights or trademarks - even though they did not create the offending content. Technology companies like media companies, internet service providers, technology companies, and even some general business companies are all at risk.
Stuckey & Company offers a solution for technology companies. Our Electronic Media Activity coverage goes beyond standard personal injury coverage, and new policy forms now offer protection for five main areas of protection:
- Defamation
- Right to privacy
- Plagiarism/Piracy
- Copyright Infringement
- Negligence
Electronic Media Activities services are typically not described on professional liability insurance policies as a covered service. Stuckey’s policy gives coverage for electronic publishing, web casting, or other distribution of electronic content on the internet.

Choosing our January Employee of the Month was a real no-brainer this time. She stood out like Santa Claus at an Elvis convention. Terri Ford has been with Stuckey and Company for four years. She started out doing basic clerical and reception work and now she processes policies, cancellations and Broker of Record letters and she also keeps our office supplies stocked, takes care of the mail and keeps our plants alive (which, to me, is a true hero). This month, Terri has gone above and beyond the teamwork concept. Since she works quickly and meticulously, she flies through her responsibilities and then she often takes it upon herself to help others get caught up or she'll take on a project like organizing the supply room... and she just does it, nobody asks her. She even volunteered to clean up the dumpster area outside! Every year, we have a huge filing project. It starts in the dungeon (our basement filing/storage room) and it ends with boxes and boxes of files. Terri has been down there for days! We keep lowering down food, water and band-aids, and once in while, we'll even check on her to make sure she hasn't severed a limb from the cardboard edge of the files. (If you've never been sliced by a cardboard file, let me tell you, those aren't just paper cuts, they are flesh wounds!) Back to our star: Terri works 3 days per week and she makes the most of every minute that she's here. She's one of those people who never sits still. If she sees something that needs to be done, she does it. She doesn't call attention to it, she doesn't complain, she just does it. She really is kind of like Santa Claus: works quickly, doesn't complain, gets the job done... although Santa probably doesn't have to worry about file cuts.
