It's no big deal when we get a delivery. We're always expecting some sort of office supply driver, express courier, or the bottled water dude. We don't pay much attention...unless it's Valentine's Day. We're all looking out the window as this huge red flower arrangement, with legs sticking out from under the vase, is slowly making its way into the foyer of the building. The anticipation is dreadful. Whose desk will they land on? We all start shuffling the piles of paper away from the corner of our desks to make room. The delivery guy sits them down on the counter and reaches in his pocket for the slip. We're like audience members on the Price is Right. "Pick me, pick me!" The first contestant is the newly married...Lindsay! We all go over and "ooohhh and ahhh" and smell the lovely cheerful tulips that adorn the corner of her desk. She is positively beaming. Next comes gorgeous hot pink roses for Nikki, then Terri gets a beautiful multi-pastel bouquet of roses and Jerry and Libby each get a dozen long stem red ones. Just a couple more hopeless romantics out there and we almost have enough to make a small Stuckey and Company float for the Rose Parade. Being the practical romantic that I am, I thought Maggie's delivery was very clever. I had never heard of a "Pajama Gram". What a cool concept. She received comfortable and practical PJ's in a decorative box. Even though most of us were able to spread the piles of paper back into the corners of our desks, it's okay because Kerry and Dwight made sure that we each got a big box of chocolates. Mine is sitting on top of a pile of papers in the corner of my desk. Maybe by the next Valentine's Day, not only will I know what is in that pile of papers, but maybe I'll need to make room on my desk for something other than papers. Until then, and in the spirit of Bob Barker, "Help control the pet population, don't forget to get your pets spayed or neutered."
