It seems after the Christmas/New Year's holiday hub-hub is over, there is a welcomed lull. Then, about the end of January, I start to look for something to look forward to again. Although there are plenty of "bankers" holidays tucked in February (no offense to my banker friends - you poor souls can't help it that you have to take off work for so many federal holidays) about the only event for which I count down on my calendar is the annual Local Trivia Night Contest to benefit Autism research. We rocked this year! Out of 45 tables, we finished 4th, just 2 questions away from first place. The tie-breaker decided between the first and second place teams. I wish I could say it was an intense competition, but actually it's such a fun and relaxed atmosphere that even the most competitive brainiacs don't get bunched up. Not only did I learn that a twelve pound bowling ball will float in a tank of water, yet an unwrapped Butterfinger bar will not, but I learned that Kyle, who happens to be a sports trivia wizard, also knows quite a bit about old movies. His mom has a lot to do with organizing the event and so we get a prime table up front every year. Not that there's any intellectual value to that, but it is a lot closer to fill up the beer pitchers. And, when you sit down with Rachel and Jerry who are masters of comedic responses, Kim's contagious laugh, Dwight's "high-fives", Chris Irvin's useless information deductive reasoning skills, and my snacks, it is easy to see why we look forward to this event every year. Hey, it's not as huge as Christmas, but it's nearly just as fun.
