Superman, A Charlie's Angel, a couple of nurses, teachers, firefighters, football
players, models, rock stars, even a nun. These are the answers I got when I
asked my co-workers what they wanted to be when they grew up - some even claimed
not to be grown up yet. I'll leave it to you to figure out who said that. Anyway,
why did this come to mind? I think because my twin boys are going off to college
this summer and they are contemplating the direction they want to take with
their studies and it occurred to me that not only do most people work in a career
that they never contemplated as a kid, but many don't even work in the field
for which they studied. I'm a prime example, as a child I wanted to work at
Dairy Queen (I think the colorful ice cream sprinkles caught my eye). I studied
to be a classical pianist in college and now I work in the insurance industry.
Full circle, eh? Maybe if all of us in the insurance industry wore a cape to
work or a purple spiked wig with a guitar-shaped brief case or a glamorous crown,
kids would want to be an insurance agent when they grew up. Can you imagine
that?!
