I attended a helpful and informative Employment
Law seminar last
week. The speaker talked about certain things
you just shouldn't
talk about in the workplace. Most of the topics
seemed pretty
obvious to me but one thing that I was disappointed
about was
that he urged us not to participate in age-related
birthday jokes
aimed at employees. It's a good thing nobody
told me that last
year because I had a blast helping intertwine
plastic wrap around
a couple of employee's desks, chairs and office
supplies. We filled
their cubicles with black balloons, Gerital
ads, over-the-hill cakes,
etc. To me, that shows how much we care about
each other. Maybe
if the big 40 really was "over-the-hill" that
would be different
but the closer I get to the big 4-0, the younger
it seems to me.
Nikki, Nicole and Diana all had birthdays this
month. One of which
can finally buy beer, one said good-bye to
the roaring twenties,
and the other is in between. What's the big
deal anyway? When is
one officially "over-the-hill"? I
think I'll be officially "over-
the-hill" when I can't decorate for birthdays
anymore.
PS-Look out Dwight!!
