In The Office by Michele Kennedy

You know how "they" say to smile when you answer the phone and the person calling will hear the smile in your voice? "They" also ask: If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a sound? So...if the person calling hears a smile, but you didn't smile, does that mean they didn't call? Deep thoughts to ponder...One thing you'll never have to wonder about is whether or not Shelli is smiling. Shelli is Stuckey and Company's April Employee of the Month. Now THAT girl smiles when she answers the phone, at least it sounds like it to me. I can't see her from where I sit, but I can hear her. I love listening to her talk on the phone because she seems to have formed friendships with agents all over the country. I tell everybody here to be sure and let me know when someone compliments them for their service and Shelli collects kudos from agents like kids lining their pockets with piñata candy. I think it's because she goes the extra mile to make sure that her agent friends know that she cares. Shelli takes pride in her work. She takes pride in being part of a winning team. She volunteers to help others and doesn't complain. Last Christmas, one of her agent friends drove two hours to meet Shelli. The agent brought us each a box of candy and an extra special present for Shelli. They went to lunch and chatted and Shelli told me afterwards how great it was to meet someone that she talked with so often and how incredibly nice it was for Lisa to drive all that way to surprise her! I think that says a lot about Shelli, too. If Shelli didn't always smile when talking on the phone, then agents wouldn't hear it and if nobody's there to hear it...does it still make a sound?
