You know when you call someone and you're put on hold and the lady with
the calming voice explains how important your call is to them? Sometimes
it doesn't feel like your call is important to them, right? - especially
when the clock hands have moved about 90 degrees. My mind begins to
picture all these customer service reps standing around chatting about
American Idol or Desperate Housewives. The nerve! But then I hear my
other phone line ring while I'm on hold and then my incoming call goes
to voicemail and I realize that the company that I'm holding for may
actually care about me and they are quite possibly doing the best that
they can. Look at our situation at Stuckey & Company: providing
excellent service to our agents really is very important to us; though
we've had little hiccup this month getting our commission checks out on
time. We are currently in the middle of converting our accounting
information to a new database, which sounds so simple! In concept, it is.
Plug a few numbers here, plug a few numbers there, viola! But... to make
a REALLY long story short, it's been an exercise in character building.
(That's what my grandma calls the difficult stuff). Anyway, we are asking
that you pretty please be patient with us while we transition. We are
making changes to improve our technology so that we can offer quick,
accurate and consistent service because we really do care (and that isn’t
just the calm lady talking).
