If you woke up Saturday morning and you had the house to yourself and the
whole day to yourself, how would you spend your time? I asked this question
to everybody here at the office. We are a pretty close knit group, so I probably
could have predicted many of the answers. For instance, when I asked this
question to all the moms with young children, unanimously their expressions
immediately showed confusion. It seems nobody around here with small kids has
experienced a day to themselves in recent memory. Once the moms were able to
imagine the scenario, then their eyes sort of glazed over, and they topped it
off with slow satisfying smiles. NICE! Shopping was the most popular answer
for the gals, followed by cleaning (Hello! Hypothetical Free Day ladies, why
are we cleaning?!) sleeping and watching movies, spa treatments, reading and
walking the dog. The guys’ answers were dominated by sports: golf, watching
sports on TV, working in the yard. (Hello! Hypothetical Free Day guys, why are
we working in the yard?) boating, swimming, walking the dog and watching taped
TV shows/movies. Rachel said that she’d come in to work if she had a free Saturday,
and she said it with a straight face! I think she needs some extra work in her
in-basket so she has something to do this Saturday, don’t you?
