I heard from our local news that on July 7th this year, there were a reported three times more weddings than average due to the lucky date: 07-07-07. I didn't realize so many people believed in that stuff. But, considering the divorce statistics, I guess a little but of numerological luck couldn't hurt. I was talking to a fellow musician whose band was hired to play at a wedding reception a couple of weeks ago and apparently the groom called it off the night before the wedding. The bride decided to go ahead and have the reception anyway. Can you imagine meeting some of your ex-fiancé's family for the first time at the reception? "Hi, I know I'll never see you again but you go ahead and enjoy that $27 plate of filet and baby carrots. By the way, your cousin is a real *3@!!*." Awkward! Anyway, Lindsay, in our Personal Lines department, is getting married in November this year and so we talk about wedding plans occasionally. She was telling us about the Travelers' Wedding Insurance coverage and how there is a "cold feet" exclusion. (Apparently "cold feet" is a technical insurance term). I guess it covers things like the cherub ice sculpture that got dropped and now looks like a small child with an amputated leg shooting archery. But I wonder if it covers the groom's cake if it accidentally got smashed by the bride's shoe or if the groom's dinner somehow got tainted with a strong laxative or if the groom's tuxedo somehow got red paint spilled on it. There's probably a disgruntled bride clause; though you may want to call Lindsay with your coverage questions.
