We’ve never had an "employee of the month award" at Stuckey & Company. I think mostly because the company started with a tiny office of only one non-Stuckey employee (Kelly) and more recently because we always have more than one person who does an exceptional job throughout the month. But I’m a big advocate of giving kudos and appreciation, as are Kerry and Dwight, so this month we made it official. Let’s talk about Susan. She was chosen as our July employee of the month for good reason. We looked at attendance, quality of work, quantity of work and overall attitude. Susan got top marks for all those things. She issues our Professional Liability policies and meticulously files surplus lines taxes and we know we can count on her to be here everyday. Even though Susan is scheduled to work 30 hours each week, she produces the amount of work that most people crank out in 40 hours. I can’t even persuade her to take a break during the day. Susan has worked at Stuckey & Company since March 2006. She is married to a great guy, who happens to work with my husband (small world), she has a son who is going off to college this year and who could seriously play professional baseball someday. Her daughters are age 10 and 12, one of which is very active in scouts. Susan has her plate full with family and work, but she says that she also enjoys hanging out with her friends, reading and playing on the computer. When considering who was going to be our first employee of the month, Jerry brought up a great point: people who work in the service department are sort of like umpires or referees they pretty much stay in the background of the game until there’s a close call or something bad happens. Then they get plenty of attention. I think people in all industries who do a good job should get plenty of attention — even if that means taking a look at the instant replay.
